Often beginners tend to dress too warmly. However, overheating and sweating can very quickly lead to illness. It is worth, therefore, to run in winter, dress in such a way, that at first we were a little too cold. After several minutes we will already be well warmed up. If it is warm when you go out for a training, it is not a good sign.
If we do not have an opportunity to buy specialized, winter shoes, we can run in the same as in summer. However, it is worth having a winter pair of shoes. They are usually thicker, have a stiffer sole and stronger upper fabric. You can also use special non-slip overlays.
When it comes to socks, it’s worth betting on those made of artificial fibers or with a touch of cotton. It is good that they are long, because then they will warm up the Achilles tendon.
Running pants and leggings are available in special winter versions. They are additionally insulated on the inside, have higher fabric weight and windproof panels in the front. For running in lower temperatures, it is worth to equip yourself with insulated models. Leggings, which do not restrict movement, may also be a good solution. They should be made of artificial fibers and special fabrics. If the wind is strong, you can wear leggings and pants.
Underwear is also important. It is very important that it is made of suitable materials. Cotton is definitely not suitable, as it dries slowly and catches water quickly. The best solution will be briefs or boxers made of warmer material. It is better to choose briefs for leggings and boxers for loose pants.
The first layer of clothing for running in low temperatures should be thermal underwear. Such shirts adhere well to the body, which allows you to better cope with sweat. They protect us from chilling.

The third layer, which is the top one, are jackets. It is worth to check, which model will work best in our case. It will depend on the intensity of weather conditions. A jacket should be thin and light. It is important that it is windproof and breathable, as well as having a form of thermal insulation
A hood on your jacket can come in handy for more severe weather conditions. For dry but frosty days, a women ‘s or men’s running jacket that has a wind- and frost-resistant front panel will work well. On the other hand, a jacket with a high degree of waterproofness and breathability is necessary for wet conditions.
A lot of heat escapes through your head, so it’s a good idea to wear a hat. A fleece hat is best for cold weather. A headband can also be a good option. It is important that your ears are covered.
If your running jacket has a high collar, you do not need to wear a neck protection. However, if temperatures are really low, it is worth putting on a scarf, so called buff. In case of really bad conditions, a running balaclava will also be useful.
On very frosty days it is best to wear gloves with fleece. They will keep your hands warm and wick away moisture. On the other hand, for severe cold, it is worth having thicker gloves with a membrane.
